 Engagement:  congratulations to Jonathan Nally, son of Andrew and Tracey, Athlone road who recently announced his engagement to Edel O’Dea, Loughrea, Co Galway.  Best wishes to them both into the future.

Mass in Forgney Church:  will be celebrated for St. Patrick’s Day on Monday evening, March 16th at 7p.m.

Car Parking:     The local Gardai have asked that from March 1st 2020 that you do not park your car on the Main road, outside St. Matthews Church during Mass times except by those holding a disability badge.     You are requested to please use the new Public Car Park so as not to obstruct local businesses or residents.                                            

Death of Thomas O’Reilly:   It was with deep regret that we learnt of the death of Tommy O’Reilly, Park Place, Colehill at the Regional Hospital, Mullingar on February 24th last.    He was a grand, friendly and very outgoing gentleman who worked for a number of years in Treanors Garage in Ballymahon when he came from England to live in Colehill.        His remains were interred in Abbeyshrule Cemetery following his Funeral Mass in the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes nearby.  We extend our deepest sympathy to his sons Michael and Sean, daughter Jenny, brother Anthony, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, and all his relatives, neighbours and many friends.  May he rest in peace.

Fleadh Cheoil:    This year’s Longford County Fleadh Cheoil will be held in Edgeworthstown from the 16th to 19thApril.     And the Leinster Fleadh takes place in Swords, Dublin from the 5th to 12th July 2020 with the All-Ireland Fleadh this year on our doorsteps from 2nd to 9thAugust in Mullingar.

Forgney National School:  The Forgney National School committee wish to thank Forgney G.A.A. for their very generous donation of €360 from their Championship winning team’s Reunion night in The Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule on December 28th last.   It was very much appreciated.

Death of James Murtagh:   the death occurred on 29thFebruary 2020 of James Murtagh, Enniscorthy and formerly Moyvore.       He is survived by his wife Joan, family Denise, Sharon, Bernadette, Jacqueline and Patricia,  brothers and sisters Louise, Billy, Pat, John, Bridie, Mary, Nora, P.J. and Josie, grandchildren , extended family, relatives and many friends.    May his Soul rest in peace.

Welcome Home: to Joe and Nuala Farrell, Creevaghbeg  who recently returned from their trip to Dubai visiting their son Darren, his wife Anya and their grandchild.   We hope they enjoyed the holiday.

Awards Night:  many congratulations to Wilder & Gold, the café deli & home living store on Main Street who received the “Best Newcomer” Award at the Leinster Regional Final of the Irish Restaurant Awards in Knightsbrook Hotel recently.   Congratulations also to the Courtyard Restaurant at Cooney’s Hotel who received the Best Hotel & Guesthouse Restaurant award and to The Nine Arches Restaurant, also on Main street who won the Best Customer Service award.     And very well done to Fiona Egan of Cloughan Farm and Cookery School who won “Best Local Food Hero” award and Edward McGoey and his staff at The Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule who won the Best Gastro Pub award.   What an amazing achievement for all those local businesses,  you must be very proud of your success.   We wish you continued success in the Regional and All Ireland Finals on May 18th 2020.

Death of Very Rev Jack Kiernan:  our deepest sympathy is extended to the family, friends and fellow Priests of Very Rev Jack Kiernan P.E. , Slane, Meath, former Parish Priest Collinstown, Co Westmeath and former Priest at Forgney/Moyvore parish.     May he rest in peace.
