Great win for Mullinalaghta:  congratulations to Mullinalaghta football team who had a great win against Eire Og, Carlow in the semi-final of the Leinster Club Championship at Glennon Bros Pearse Park on Sunday afternoon last.   They now go on to play Kilmacud Crokes, Dublin in the Final of the Championship which will be played on Dec 9th.   We wish the lads the best of luck.

 

Death of Pat Dooner:  Our deepest sympathy is extended to Mrs Ann Dooner, whose husband Pat, retired Garda (Naas, Kildare and Ballitore) and formerly of Killashee passed away last week.    He is also survived by his children Aoife and Patrick Jnr., Aoife’s partner Martin, his brothers Anthony, Gerry, Oliver and Mel, sister Mary, relatives and friends to whom extend our deepest sympathy.  Pat’s remains were laid to rest in Ballymore Cemetery, Co Westmeath.    May he rest in peace.

Royal Canal Group:-   a limited Edition of a 2019 Calendar titled “Ballymahon Royal Canal” is on sale at Nally’s Forecourt, Diffley’s Hardware,  Jenny’s Flowers,  Finn’s Centra,  Egan Tyres Terlicken  and the Ticket Office Brannigan Harbour.     The Calendar contains a brief history of the Royal Canal, Seasonal photographs, local businesses and would be an ideal present for someone at home or abroad.                The Calendars are just €10 each.                                                                                                                Proceeds go towards ongoing improvements and maintenance of our Walkway  by the Canal Group.  Many thanks to all the sponsors for their support.

 

 

Garda Band:   A Concert is to be held in St. Matthews Church on Sunday afternoon, December 2nd at 3.00p.m.   where music will be provided by the Garda Band.    Everyone is more than welcome to attend.   It promises to be a very entertaining event.

 

Santa Claus is coming to town:   On Sunday December 2nd Santa Claus will be coming to visit the children of the area at Bridgeways Family Resource centre from 1 to 4p.m. with Mrs Claus.    It will be an opportunity for the parents to soak up the Christmas atmosphere with a glass of mulled wine, pick up Christmas presents on the local stalls and meet up with friends.     The children can visit Santa at his grotto for €2 each, all children will receive a gift from him.  Following Santa’s visit, the Christmas Lights will be lit up in the town at 4.30p.m.

Fireside Tales No 16:    Congratulations to Jude Flynn who launched his 16th Edition of “Fireside Tales” from around Longford Town and County last week.     As always his book would make a great Christmas present for someone you know, especially for those who perhaps have left the area.   For people in the Ballymahon area you might enjoy reading Canon Albert Kingston’s happy memories of his 34 years in the parishes of Ardagh/Moydow, Tashinney, Kenagh and Ballymahon and is now retired.    He describes these years as being interesting and rewarding while learning that “ Church and community are inseparable”.       Tom O’Reilly, Park Place, Colehill, born in 1926 talks about life in the Irish army which he joined at the age of 14 years  and later decided to join the British army.  He married a girl called Peggy Skelly from Tenelick who sadly passed away in 2009.     Another article in Jude’s book is called “Two Ballymahon Poets” written by Michael Casey, Barley Harbour, Newtowncashel who talks about two poets coming from the same parish namely Oliver Goldsmith and John Keegan Casey – Leo.            We wish Jude the best of luck with his latest Edition of Fireside Tales which costs €20.

Fireside Tales No 16:    Congratulations to Jude Flynn who launched his 16th Edition of “Fireside Tales” from around Longford Town and County last week.     As always his book would make a great Christmas present for someone you know, especially for those who perhaps have left the area.   For people in the Ballymahon area you might enjoy reading Canon Albert Kingston’s happy memories of his 34 years in the parishes of Ardagh/Moydow, Tashinney, Kenagh and Ballymahon and is now retired.    He describes these years as being interesting and rewarding while learning that “ Church and community are inseparable”.       Tom O’Reilly, Park Place, Colehill, born in 1926 talks about life in the Irish army which he joined at the age of 14 years  and later decided to join the British army.  He married a girl called Peggy Skelly from Tenelick who sadly passed away in 2009.     Another article in Jude’s book is called “Two Ballymahon Poets” written by Michael Casey, Barley Harbour, Newtowncashel who talks about two poets coming from the same parish namely Oliver Goldsmith and John Keegan Casey – Leo.            We wish Jude the best of luck with his latest Edition of Fireside Tales which costs €20.

 

 

Soiree at The River Inn:   Ballymahon/Landevant French Twinning group are holding their annual Fundraising Soiree in The River Inn on Friday, Dec 7th.   Tickets for the event are  €5.  Refreshments will be served on the night and music will be provided by special Guest Artist Pat Kelly from Kildare.   All are welcome.   Your support will be appreciated.  Tickets are available at The River Inn or any of the committee members.

 

 

One Act Drama Festival:    Chairperson at The Bog Lane Theatre, Gemma Rowan, would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who was involved in the 2018 One Act Drama Festival which was a great success.   To the Festival Club and The Bog Lane Theatre committee and members for their dedication and hard working leading up to and over the weekend.   To Gerry Quinn, Pat Lloyd and Frank McGrath for their hard work with the refurbishment,  the Theatre looks beautiful.   To Breege and Tommy Murray, proprietors of the River inn who graciously hosts the groups and facilitate the private adjudication each year , we are forever grateful.   To the Adjudicator, Alan Howley, it was a pleasure to welcome him to Ballymahon and we thank him for an outstanding job and of course thank you to our loyal audience on whom we depend for the success of our Festival.  Our Sponsors, Kepak, Cooneys Hotel, Nally’s Topaz and Finn’s Centra , we are truly grateful for your generosity.   A big thank you to Longford County Council for their continued support and a special Thank you to Longford Local Community Development Program for their generous contribution to the refurbishment.       To the nine Groups, Martello Productions, Compantas Lir, New Ross Drama Workshop, Athlone Little Theatre, Modelbox Productions, Prosperous Dramatic Society, Seamus O’Kelly Players, Dunmore Amateur Dramatic Society and Balally Players,  thank you all for a wonderful weekend of Drama.      A huge congratulations to the winners , although everyone who performed is a winner!     We hope you all enjoyed the Festival as much as we enjoyed having you all with us.

Samaritan Christmas Concert:  The 27th Annual Samaritan Christmas Concert will take place on Thursday 6th December in the Franciscan Friary , Athlone at 8.00p.m.          It will feature the Army Band of the 2nd Brigade, St. Brigid’s Community Choir, Athlone Pipe Band and Tenors Sean Costello and Frank Naughten.                                                                                                                                                              Tickets @ €12 are available at the Franciscan Friary in Athlone.    Your support at the concert will be very much appreciated. Great win for Mullinalaghta:  congratulations to Mullinalaghta football team who had a great win against Eire Og, Carlow in the semi-final of the Leinster Club Championship at Glennon Bros Pearse Park on Sunday afternoon last.   They now go on to play Kilmacud Crokes, Dublin in the Final of the Championship which will be played on Dec 9th.   We wish the lads the best of luck.

 

Death of Pat Dooner:  Our deepest sympathy is extended to Mrs Ann Dooner, whose husband Pat, retired Garda (Naas, Kildare and Ballitore) and formerly of Killashee passed away last week.    He is also survived by his children Aoife and Patrick Jnr., Aoife’s partner Martin, his brothers Anthony, Gerry, Oliver and Mel, sister Mary, relatives and friends to whom extend our deepest sympathy.  Pat’s remains were laid to rest in Ballymore Cemetery, Co Westmeath.    May he rest in peace.

Royal Canal Group:-   a limited Edition of a 2019 Calendar titled “Ballymahon Royal Canal” is on sale at Nally’s Forecourt, Diffley’s Hardware,  Jenny’s Flowers,  Finn’s Centra,  Egan Tyres Terlicken  and the Ticket Office Brannigan Harbour.     The Calendar contains a brief history of the Royal Canal, Seasonal photographs, local businesses and would be an ideal present for someone at home or abroad.                The Calendars are just €10 each.                                                                                                                Proceeds go towards ongoing improvements and maintenance of our Walkway  by the Canal Group.  Many thanks to all the sponsors for their support.

 

 

Garda Band:   A Concert is to be held in St. Matthews Church on Sunday afternoon, December 2nd at 3.00p.m.   where music will be provided by the Garda Band.    Everyone is more than welcome to attend.   It promises to be a very entertaining event.

 

Santa Claus is coming to town:   On Sunday December 2nd Santa Claus will be coming to visit the children of the area at Bridgeways Family Resource centre from 1 to 4p.m. with Mrs Claus.    It will be an opportunity for the parents to soak up the Christmas atmosphere with a glass of mulled wine, pick up Christmas presents on the local stalls and meet up with friends.     The children can visit Santa at his grotto for €2 each, all children will receive a gift from him.  Following Santa’s visit, the Christmas Lights will be lit up in the town at 4.30p.m.
